During my holidays I visited Blickling Estate, Norwich, Norfolk, its sort of another obsession of mine, I love to look around heritage buildings, the grandness of their appearance, quality pieces of furniture, learning about the history of the estate all set in masses of gardens, I wish I lived in that time era. Here are a couple of pieces that I loved, noting them down as possible inspirations for future projects.
If any of you want to visit Blickling Estate here is the National Trust Link-

i loved this metalwork detailing mounted on the reception walls, however i have no idea what it was for, if anyone knows? |
an early wheelchair? |
believe it or not but this was one of the ceilings within the house, i noted down the designer of the piece, John Hungerford Pollen, for future pattern reference |
the pure extravagance of this piece amazed me, the beautiful marble top and the pure amount of detailing within the gold frame |
the detailing on one of the doors that continued along the door frame and into the next room |
this was one of the first pieces that indicated that there was going to be alot of oriental pieces in the house, the quality of this piece was amazing considering it was years old and had been transported miles. |
the panelling detailing down the dining room wall |
the inside panelling of a chest in one of the rooms |
i loved this kitchen set, its hundreds of years old but it still looks contemporary and at the same time rustic by the colours used and the style its been made in, i wouldn't mind this in my kitchen |
this staff kitchen chair caught my eye, there is a split all the way through the seat, right along the grain of the wood, but the seat is still usable, it shows how well manufactured and how good the quality of the material was |
another heavily detailed oriental piece, unfortionately i couldn't use flash so the picture is pretty dark and doesn't show the products full beauty. |
an early version of a keyboard? i love how it is so compact and can be hidden away, the whole quality of the piece would make it look like an expensive desk when fully closed up. |
this piece was in the bathroom, it took me a while to work out what it actually was, its one of the early weighing scales. |
after glancing at this i couldn't believe the detail it had, and that all of it was inlaid, the talent of the producers at this time must have been immense, the small sizes of some of the strips of wood was crazy on this piece. |
this was probably my favourite piece, a bedroom desk table that can also be transformed into a laddies dressing table, by lifting up the desk top surface it reveals a mirror that can be revolved into place and amble storage compartments. |
a change from the rest of the oriental furniture seen within Blickling House, the white is a welcomed difference, drawing the eye towards the object and making the black inlaid intricate detailing stand out |
a bedside table that also incorporates a chamber pot, clever? |
how gorgeous is this desk table, the quality of the wood really stands out against the gold rimmed detailing |
the striking ceiling, i have never seen 3D ceiling detailing before. |
this piece was definitely one of the most luxuroius side tables i have ever seen, another marble topped piece with beautiful wood and patterned finish. |
